FAQ
Do I need to soften my ear wax?
In most cases, Microsuction can be performed without pre-treatment. However, use of Earol or olive oil drops for 3 days prior to your appointment is preferable to ensure the treatment is as comfortable as possible for you. Use of stronger products such as Otex Express or Sodium Bicarbonate is generally not recommended unless advised by your Audiologist.
What happens during the appointment?
The Audiologist will take a history of the problem that you have been experiencing, and you will be asked to sign a consent form. Your ears will then be examined using an otoscope, followed by a discussion about which treatment option best suits your needs. The Audiologist will explain the treatment before proceeding, and answer any questions you may have.
How long does the procedure take?
Microsuction is usually a quick procedure. However, this can vary depending on the texture of the ear wax and extent of the blockage. Appointments last 30 minutes to ensure adequate time is given to cater for your needs. You are free to leave as soon as the treatment has ended, and all your questions have been answered.
